This course is designed to help pre-service teachers at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) take part in community engaged learning. So far it has helped me to see more of the city I call home from a teacher’s perspective. This new viewpoint forces one to see the need for quality instruction at all levels without casting judgment or showing prejudice. I am now positively obliged to a second look at how I approach teaching, and the community values through which I exercise my practice.
This course is unique in that it offers pre-service teachers the opportunity to have a mini-practicum experience that is self-guided and innovative. It allows for creativity, flexibility and inspiration to infuse one’s teaching in a way that a standard practicum may not always offer. If your practicum leaves you wanting, and you still want more out of your teaching experiences, then this course may be just what you are looking for.
